Connecticut Accessible Parking Sign Requirements

Connecticut is one of the few states that requires the Dynamic Accessibility Symbol — the forward-leaning, "active" wheelchair icon — on accessible parking signage instead of the traditional static symbol. That makes Connecticut accessible signs visually different from the standard federal sign.

Every accessible parking space must display the federal "Reserved Parking" sign (MUTCD R7-8) showing the International Symbol of Accessibility. Van-accessible spaces need an added "Van Accessible" plaque, and the bottom of each sign must sit at least 60 inches (5 feet) above the ground so it stays visible above a parked vehicle.

Tow-away enforcement

To tow an unauthorized vehicle from private property in Connecticut, the lot must post a compliant tow-away sign at each entrance under Connecticut General Statutes Section 14-145, typically including the towing company name and phone number. Missing or non-compliant signage can void the tow.

Connecticut Sign FAQs

Does Connecticut use a different accessibility symbol?
Yes. Connecticut requires the Dynamic Accessibility Symbol (the active, forward-leaning wheelchair icon) on accessible parking signs, instead of the traditional static symbol used in most states.
What sign do I need to tow from a private lot in Connecticut?
A compliant tow-away / unauthorized-vehicle sign posted at each entrance, as required by Connecticut General Statutes Section 14-145, before a vehicle can be removed.
